Interesting reading! Thanks for posting it. Touches somewhat on some of the issues covered in 2010's "How to Read SF" panel, on the genre background knowledge assumed in reading modern SF. Any thoughts on how that could be applied to programming at the con? Ie panels that don't rely on decades of immersion in SF/fandom to fully appreciate?

I see your interesting if slightly bleak article and raise you one about trying to improve the quality of the written science fiction genre. Also bleak, in a "we are arranging deck chairs on the Titanic" way http://ruthlessculture.com/2012/10/03/cowardice-laziness-and-irony-how-science-fiction-lost-the-future/ I think a panel would really good but it should avoid being a way for panelists the describe the most outré things they have read. Or even "not" read but heard bloggers rave about. Unless we call it "the Dadaist hipster's guide to science fiction'
